Remove Broken Floor Tile

Tap the tile down with a flat board and mallet. Here s how to go about it. Removing and replacing a broken ceramic tile isn t that difficult if you have matching tile leftover from the original installation. Remove any loose adhesive remaining on the floor.

Apply the acrylic floor adhesive generously to the floor. Using a cold chisel to break up a floor tile. Use the flat side of the notched trowel to spread it out evenly then use the notched side to groove the adhesive. Let the mortar cure then grout and seal the joints.

If you are removing an entire wall of tiles just make sure to remove grout next to the ceiling and floor. Remove excess mortar that squeezes into the joints. When removing a single tile remove the grout on all sides of it to avoid damaging the others around it. Dampen a sponge and clean the floor.

3 heat the grout optional. First isolate the broken tile from the rest of the floor by using a hammer and chisel to remove the grout around the tile.
